An Evaluation System for the Conservation of Geomorphological Assets: Landforms in South Korea

Abstract Landforms are spaces for human life, habitats animals and plants, areas that provide various ecological services. However, development has undermined landform where it should be kept as an important asset. In South Korea, to reduce this damage, a system was created evaluate the conservation value of landforms, either designate them or obtain permission their in advance. general public, who demands landforms continuously, have frequently questioned subjectivity evaluation criteria used landforms. National Institute Ecology (NIE) Korea carried out project which increase reliability these by modifying into quantitative system. This paper aims introduce geomorphological survey part Investigation Environment (INE), improved via Delphi, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), on-site verification, etc. As result using detailed scoring indicators, specific criteria, weights evaluation, there is low correlation between confirmed each indicator evaluated correctly. addition, results experts’ opinions generally coincided with final grades values, indirectly experts participated 4th INE agreed results. research demonstrates method can improve objective assessment opinion surveys. Future could use developed apply other surveys countries.
